What Happens When Veterans' Stories Stop Being Told?

Veterans Day - Why Their Stories Matter

Today is Veterans Day. For so many, that means a day off of work or the opportunity to get some extra work done around the house. But for a small number of us, it means focusing on those who served our country—especially those who gave their lives so that we may live freely today. But what is the best way to honor what they did for us? How can we ensure that their sacrifice was not in vain? Today, that question is more relevant than ever.

Just this past week, we saw an English news segment in which a British World War II veteran expressed with a heavy heart that he feels the sacrifices made were not worth it when considering the current state of his country and the world. This should deeply distress us all.

It raises the crucial question - how can we ensure that it was worth it? At the end of the day, nearly every veteran desires this above all else.

The answer, in my opinion, is to tell their stories. And then keep telling them. The more history that is taught, the harder it becomes for us to make the mistakes of our past. The more the cost of freedom is driven into our minds, the harder it becomes for us to forget why it was paid.

This is why I believe wholeheartedly that the work we are doing here at TJ3 History is of the utmost importance to our culture and the future of the next generation. With that being said, I wanted to take this Veterans Day to update you guys on our biggest veteran project ever taken on.

This morning, I posted an update for Patreon supporters, YouTube channel members, and Kickstarter supporters on my upcoming massive B-17 documentary. This content is only availably for those that support on those platforms, but I will give you guys the summary.

Essentially, all of our hard work interviewing B-17 veterans is finally coming to a finished product. We are finaly editing and color grading, and the final cut should be done in a few weeks. Then, we will hopefully be bringing it to a big screen near you in 2026! I can't give away too much just yet, but stay tuned for more updates coming soon. And if you want early alerts, you can follow our brand new (and empty) TJ3 Productions pages on Facebook or Instagram.

AN IMPORTANT REQUEST FOR YOU!

Every year, veterans make appearances across the country at Veterans Day events. If you come across or hear of a World War II, Korea, or Vietnam veteran who flew combat - please fill out my Veteran Info Form so that we can try to get out and tell their story! Finding these guys is often the most difficult part of our job. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hope you all have a great day remembering those who served and spending time with family.

As always, it would mean the world if you could support my work on Patreon. Plus, get all sorts of behind-the-scenes content! You can join here: TJ3 History Patreon!

That is all I have for today. Thanks for reading and I will talk to you guys soon!

Please reply with your thoughts or feedback here! Here's to saving more history together.

BONUS CONTENT! The P-61 Black Widow - Behind the Scenes! Last month, I released a new documentary covering the P-61 Black Widow, one of the most unappreciated aircraft of the war. In today's newsletter, I will cover some bonus content that did not make the cut for that video! In case you missed it, here is a link to watch: BEHIND THE SCENES: To begin, let's take a look at some of the nose art on P-61 Black Widows from across the war. I was a little perplexed at why these night fighters had...

BONUS CONTENT! The Most Brutal Gun Camera Footage I Have Seen... In December, I was browsing X (Twitter) and I located a post by a friend that I had begun to follow. His name was @Hw97Karbine and his account had quickly become one of my favorites for his original and often rarely-seen archive clips. In addition, he often added great write-ups to his posts that set historical context and insight into his great footage. hw97karbine @hw97karbine No. 607 Squadron RAF Supermarine Spitfire Mk VIII...

The FINAL SBD Dauntless gunner? The Last Veteran of a Legendary Aircraft Let me tell you about my good friend - Richard "Dick" Miralles. I have gotten to know quite a few World War II veterans in the past three years of my work. But perhaps none of them was closer to me than Dick Miralles - a former SBD Dauntless gunner with Air Group 11. This plane is the famous dive bomber that won the Battle of Midway and helped to turn the tide in the Pacific. Dick came to our attention in 2022 when we...
